Out of Network Benefits
You may be able to self-pay for therapy sessions and get reimbursed by your healthcare plan.
Out-of-network benefits for therapy clients refer to the coverage provided by an insurance plan for services obtained from healthcare providers who are not in their network of providers. Here's a general overview of how out-of-network benefits work and the steps you can take to understand and use these benefits:

1. Understand Your Out-of-Network Benefits
-
Check Insurance Coverage: Review your plan or contact customer service at your healthcare insurer to know what out of network mental health services are covered. Ask about deductibles, co-payments, co-insurance, and eligible therapies.

2. Request a "Superbill" (NOTE: If a client desires a superbill, it must be discussed before starting therapy.)
-
Superbills are detailed invoices for reimbursement. They include therapist and client information, diagnoses, and are used to claim out-of-network expenses.
-
After each session, or after an agreed upon number of sessions, you will receive detailed superbills including service info, dates, diagnosis, and costs.

3. Submit Claim to Insurance
-
Submit superbills to your insurance company for reimbursement based upon their reimbursement percentages for out of network benefits.
